Meet our Team of Dance Instructors


Jacky

FOUNDER & DIRECTOR

Jacky started dancing to Hip Hop in his NUS days under NUS Dance Blast. For more than 10 years, he has coached a few hundred students under his direct tutorship – within his studios, at pre-schools, MOE schools, tertiary institutes, government and private entities. Overtime he has also groomed many of his students to become instructors themselves.

Sean

DIRECTOR, DF Entertainment

Sean started dancing at age 15, beginning with a style called ‘Popping’. He then moved on to other styles of Hip-Hop, and was under direct tutorship of Mr Jacky Lim, the director of DF. Over time he began to compete in various competitions, and became mentor of the group ‘Escape’ which placed in the top 2 for many street dance and K-Pop competitions. He is also the mentor for ‘Gen.Z’ which placed 1st is Pulse Street dance. Sean also currently has few group under his mentorship which he trains for events and competitions.

Ashleigh

INSTRUCTOR

Ashleigh Qiann has in average at least 200 students per year age ranged 3 to 50 being guided under her wings. Throughout her 8 years of teaching experience, she has conducted classes internally in the studios and externally at childcare centres, MOE schools, tertiary institutes and corporate sectors. She is known for her ability to deeply connect with her students by adding value into their lives beyond dance. She also has a special touch with teaching children. 

At a tender age of 3, she started with Ballet as the foundation and never stopped dancing since. In year 2010, her self-trained KPOP dance crew – SWAGirls started competing actively and eventually achieved recognitions through championships / top 3 placements. In year 2013, she was recruited as a KPOP dance instructor, by director Jacky Lim.
Being a strong believer that even when one becomes a teacher, learning continues – her hunger to grow as a dancer has led her to expanding into Street Dance such as Hip Hop, Dancehall, Street Jazz, and Waacking; primarily influenced by her teachers such as Sean Goh, Keisha Srinivasan, Ryezal Rahim, Orange Seah and Lum Lum. In her recent years, she continued to be active in competitions as a choreographer / trainer / dancer and had promising achievements. Now, she trains a handful of new generation homegrown apprentice instructors.

Chewy

INSTRUCTOR

Chewy started her dance journey at SP dance club, Strictly Dance Zone (SDZ) at the age of 17, focusing mainly on hip hop, street Jazz and kpop. After graduating, she continued to partake in SIM dance club, Dreamwerkz (DWZ). Throughout these years, she has joined numerous performance and competitions inside and outside of school. Furthermore, she is a dance instructor of SST dance club currently and she has taken up quite a number of dance projects all these years. For example, she choreographed twice for SIM annual dance production, coaching of enrichment programs, helping out in various companies’ dinner and dance and etc.

Pink

INSTRUCTOR

Pink started dancing at age 13, as a Chinese dancer in her secondary school. She started taking up classes at DF under Mr Jacky Lim and Orange when she was 16, and was also in Singapore Polytechnic’s dance club Strictly Dance Zone, where she did Modern Dance and also performed for their annual production, ‘Waves 15’. She was also a dancer on a Mediacorp drama series ‘A Tale of Two Cities’.

Wei Ling

INSTRUCTOR

Wei Ling was exposed to Hip-Hop under Mr. Jacky Lim and was actively involved in the school’s various programmes such as the Overseas Dance Tours to Sydney and Hong Kong.

Denise

INSTRUCTOR

Denise started dancing at the age of 13, as a Chinese/Modern Dancer in her secondary school. She then started learning hip hop under Mr Jacky Lim at the age of 15. In poly, she was in Temasek Polytechnic Dance Ensemble (TPDE) where she was exposed to other genres such as House, Street Jazz, Popping, etc. She represented TPDE in competitions such as Super24 in year 2017, 2018, and 2019. She also represented TPDE in several performances and productions throughout her 3 years in poly. She has been representing DFA in competitions such as Dansa Mania (finalist), Upgrade (first runner up), PULSE (first runner up), etc. She is self-motivated and has a strong passion for dance as she drills and trains everyday to constantly improving herself.

Orange

INSTRUCTOR

Orange started dancing when she was 18. In her polytechnic days, was actively involved in events and joined many competitions such as Suntec Dance Competition 2004, 2005 and 2007, Funkamania 2005-2008, and many others. Her crew also represented Singapore in Melbourne, Australia, for an international dance competition ‘Battlegrounds 2007’, where they were placed fourth. Orange has also gone to Hong Kong for training (exchange program) under Instructor Rico.

Kevin

INSTRUCTOR

Kevin started dancing at age 15. He got the inspiration to dance from his idol, Harry Shum Jr. Beginning with Hip-Hop, he started taking more classes as his interest in dance grew. Having been a fan of K-Pop for a long time, he joined Korea Dance Wave as his CCA in school, and performed for school events such as CCA fair and Emblazon 2014.

Alex

INSTRUCTOR

Alex Ow is no stranger to the Street Dance community. He started dancing when he was in Ngee Ann Polytechnic and has been dancing for almost 18 years now.   Alex was trained by the best teachers in the field, both locally and overseas. He was trained by talented, well-respected local instructors, Patrick Loo and Ann Tan. In 2008, he went to United States (New York and Los Angeles) to further his dance training and was awarded “Outstanding Student Award” in Broadway Dance Center, New York City and “The Pulse Scholarship Award” at The Pulse Convention, New York City. He was even invited to teach workshops in Germany, Mexico and California, USA. Alex has also been to Japan and Australia to train. Not only is Alex trained in Hip Hop, he also underwent training in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Salsa, thus making him an all-rounded dancer / performer.   He has performed for several local and international artiste like Sun Ho, Wang Lee Hom and Coco Lee, just to name a few.   Being a veteran in the industry, Alex also had a couple of competitive championships under his belt.

Claire

INSTRUCTOR
At the age of 7, Claire started as a Chinese Dancer in her primary and secondary school. She then ventured into Modern Dance in Junior College. Throughout the years in her CCAs, she has represented her schools in various performances and competitions such as the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF).
Claire joined DF Academy as a student under Ashleigh since the start of 2018 due to her interest in K-pop. Under Ashleigh’s mentorship, Claire earned multiple internal school competitions. For instance, her group, ASHPLICIT, were the champions of DFAcademy’s 2019 Competition.
Claire strongly believes that a positive learning attitude and confidence in oneself are essential to becoming a good dancer.
Top 3 Achievements:

Shalome

Instructor

Shalome started dancing hip hop at age 12 under the guidance of Ashleigh. She then started exploring other genres such as contemporary and modern dance through her CCA in secondary school. Since then, Shalome has competed and performed in various competitions such as SYF, and concerts. She finds inspiration in her instructor, Ashleigh, as well as dancers such as Mina Myoung and Nicole Kirkland. Through lessons, Shalome hopes to pass on her love for dance and share good feelings with everyone!

Bella

Instructor

Bella started dancing at the age of 5. At the age of 9, she was exposed to Hip Hop and continued dancing throughout her Primary and Secondary school years. She then became the president of her Secondary school dance CCA and represented her school in a variety of performances and competitions like the Singapore Youth Festival (SYF).

Bella joined DF Academy as a student under Ashleigh due to her love for Hip Hop and under Ashleigh’s guidance till date, Bella has been building up and improving on her foundation. She has competed internally in DF academy’s competition with her group, QRUSH and were one of the top 5 in the 2019 competition.

Currently, Bella is studying for a dance Diploma in LASALLE to further pursue her interest in dance. She strongly believes that keeping an open mind is what helps a dancer improve and that dance is more than just moving the body, it is a way to express.

Aye Mon

INSTRUCTOR
Aye Mon started her dance journey in The Dance Family and Raffles Street Dance when she was 17. She went on to expand her Hip-Hop repertoire with the NUS d’Hoppers Dance Crew, and also trained in various genres such as dancehall and funk styles. She has choreographed for several recitals and competitions, performed at numerous commercial shows, and emerged as a finalist in local and global competitions. Beyond teaching dance classes, she also trains the DF Entertainment junior crew. Aye Mon continuously strives to better herself, and aspires to share the joy of dance with many others. Top 3 achievements: 1. Upgrade DC 2019 Global Open Category Top 5 (DFE) 2. S24 2017 Open Category Finalist (NUS DDC) 3. Pulse 2016 K-Pop Open Category Finalist
